Benin has pledged $2 million to the African Development Fund (ADF) during the Mid-Term Review of the 16th Replenishment in Cotonou. The ADF, part of the African Development Bank Group, provides grants and low-interest loans to support low-income African countries. Benin’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Romuald Wadagni, emphasized the ADF’s role as a trusted partner for development, urging transparency and rigour from recipient countries. Benin joins six other African contributors, including Algeria, Angola, Egypt, and South Africa. The current three-year ADF financing cycle, ending in 2025, received a record $8.9 billion in donations. Wadagni highlighted Benin’s goal of leveraging ADF guarantees to raise additional funds for development projects. The ADF has benefited 74 million people, particularly in agriculture.
