Egypt to Launch New Gold Exploration Bidding in Q1 2025

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum, led by Minister Karim Badawi, will launch a new gold and minerals exploration bidding process in early 2025. This announcement followed a meeting with AngloGold Ashanti officials, discussing ongoing operations at the Sukari gold mine, which AngloGold acquired from Centamin. AngloGold plans further investments in exploration and development at Sukari. The meeting also reviewed progress on a mining school, initiated by Centamin, to train local youth, set to open in September 2025. Additionally, a draft agreement for gold exploration between AngloGold and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority was signed, pending final approvals. These initiatives align with Egypt’s strategy to enhance its mining sector, attract investments, and solidify its role in the global gold market.
