Kenya and Tanzania recently addressed 14 trade barriers, resolving three at a meeting in Kisumu. Kenya will now clear spirits at Namanga border and timber imports at Lunga Lunga/Horohoro. Tea exports to Tanzania resumed. However, 11 issues remain, including Tanzania’s denial of import permits for poultry from Kenya and fees on dairy products. Both countries plan to discuss these further in July 2024. Kenya also raised concerns about discriminatory exercise duties and excise taxes on various products in Tanzania.
