Malaysia’s prime minister lauds country’s burgeoning chip hub status as Infineon opens new plant

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the country’s appeal as a semiconductor hub during the opening of Infineon’s new fabrication facility in Kulim, which is set to become the world’s largest silicon carbide factory. He emphasized Malaysia’s political stability, clear policies, and strong semiconductor ecosystem, which have attracted significant investor interest. Infineon’s investment is seen as a major endorsement of Malaysia’s potential. Amid U.S.-China tensions, Malaysia is emerging as a key semiconductor manufacturing location, with major investments from Intel and GlobalFoundries. Anwar assured that Malaysia has the talent pool to support this growth and is committed to upskilling 60,000 Malaysians to become highly skilled semiconductor engineers over the next decade.
