Mozambique and Tanzania plan to boost trade through new coastal shipping services, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises. During his visit to Dar es Salaam, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi announced a forthcoming Business Forum to explore maritime trade opportunities. This initiative aims to connect ports in Dar es Salaam, Mtwara, Nacala, and Pemba, facilitating the exchange of goods like cashew nuts, cement, and zinc sheeting. Nyusi highlighted the need to reverse the trade decline from $55.8 million in 2022 to $20.1 million in 2023, and expressed optimism about increased maritime circulation due to Mozambique’s stable currency. Nyusi also addressed terrorism concerns, noting ongoing investigations into potential financiers.
