Namibia: Central Bank Launches Instant Pay Project

The Bank of Namibia (BoN) launched the Instant Payment Programme (IPP) to modernize Namibia’s payment infrastructure, enhance financial inclusion, and ensure accessibility for all, including vendors and small business owners. The IPP, developed by the National Payments Corporation of India International and operated by Namclear, aims to achieve full interoperability of payment instruments by 2025. PwC will manage the project, which aligns with national strategies and aims to spur economic growth. BoN’s Marsorry Ickua highlights the programme’s accessibility on all devices, emphasizing its role in advancing financial inclusion, particularly in rural and informal sectors. The 16-month implementation plan covers governance, stakeholder engagement, and deployment phases.
