President El-Sisi Says Egypt to Review Situation With IMF If Escalating Burdens Persist On People

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s economic challenges at the 2024 Global Congress on Population, Health, and Human Development, noting potential revisions to the IMF program if the burden on the public becomes unbearable. Egypt has lost $6-7 billion over the past 10 months due to regional and global repercussions. Sisi emphasized that Egypt’s water share has remained unchanged despite significant population growth, leading to severe water poverty. He also praised Egypt’s achievements in eliminating Hepatitis C and malaria, positioning the country as a global health success. Despite economic instability since 2011, Sisi noted progress in reducing unemployment to 6.5%, thanks to extensive infrastructure development and reforms aimed at providing millions of job opportunities annually.
