Uganda – Govt to Focus More On Renewable Energy

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Irene Batebe, emphasized the government’s focus on prudent operation and management of the energy sector, and the implementation of the Public Finance Management Act to direct oil and gas revenues towards infrastructure development. In a meeting celebrating Uganda-Norway cooperation, Batebe highlighted the fruitful partnership in revenues, resource management, environmental protection, and programme management. Royal Norwegian Ambassador Anne Kristin Hermansen noted the solid foundation laid for Uganda to benefit from future oil revenues. However, Joseph Kobusheshe from the Petroleum Authority of Uganda acknowledged that despite achievements, gaps in the sector remain.
