Kenya Power’s Prepaid Token System to Undergo Maintenance

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) announced a planned disruption of its prepaid token vending system from 10:00 p.m. on June 2 to 10:00 p.m. on June 3, 2024, for system upgrades. During this period, customers will be unable to purchase electricity tokens from all vending points, including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA, Airtel Money, and banking channels. KPLC advises customers to buy enough tokens in advance to avoid inconvenience. This upgrade is part of KPLC’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery. The utility company, which recently reported a net profit of Sh319 million for the half-year ending December 2023, is also planning to phase out postpaid meters in rural areas over the next three years to combat power theft and reduce costs.
