President Bola Tinubu has committed to implementing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000, following an agreement with labour unions aimed at ending their indefinite strike. The deal, reached at a meeting in Abuja with top government officials, including the National Security Adviser, indicates the administration’s serious approach to resolving the issue. Although the exact new wage was not specified, both parties agreed it would exceed N60,000. The unions had begun their strike to demand a wage increase and protest higher electricity tariffs. The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage will meet daily over the next week to finalize the new wage, with unions expected to suspend the strike following internal consultations.
