President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed Tanzania’s National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) to expand grain storage capacity to three million tonnes by 2030, following her inspection of new silos and warehouses in Katavi’s Mpanda Municipality, which will boost storage from 5,000 to 28,000 tonnes. Emphasizing the project’s 14 billion/- value in enhancing food security and reducing post-harvest losses, she also designated Katavi as a special zone for grain procurement. Additionally, the President tripled the Agriculture Ministry’s budget to 1.248 trillion/- this fiscal year, emphasizing investments in irrigation, extension services, fertilizers, and storage facilities. President Samia further affirmed her commitment to improving Tanzania’s criminal justice system, aligning with recommendations from the recently concluded Criminal Justice Commission.
